About

The impetus for starting the Free Thinking Film Society was Michael Moore’s film Fahrenheit 9/11. That film seemed to be everywhere in Ottawa - yet a counter film, “Michael Moore Hates America” was rejected by one of the city’s more popular rep theatres. The only way to see that film was to wait for it to come out on DVD.

But why wait? There are lots of interesting conservative/libertarian films being made today - and none will come to Ottawa. We are trying to change that!

So far, the Free Thinking Film Society has brought in 11 films. “Obsession”, a film about radical islam played in early 2007, and “Mine Your Own Business”, a film about mining projects in the developing world, played in Spring 2007, Indoctinate-U, a film about political correctness that played earlier this year, “Che: Anatomy of a Myth”, a film about the real Che Guevara, “L’Illusion Tranquille”, a film about the power of the unions in Quebec, and “What Black Men Think”, a film about the future of the black community in the United States; “The Case for Israel” a film about Israel by Alan Dershowitz and “The Monster Among Us” a film about anti-semitism in Europe;  “Media Malpractice: How Obama Got Elected and Palin was Targeted,” a film about bias in the media;  “Not Evil Just Wrong:  The True Costs of Global Warming Hysteria,”  “Do As I Say”, a film about liberal hypocrisy,  “U.N. Me” a film about how the UN has become home to tyrants and dictators, and “The Soviet Story” a film about the crimes of the Soviet Union.

On September 14, 2010, we will be bringing in the film “Crossing”, about the horrors of North Korea - National Archives/Library of Canada, 7 PM.
